A First Timer’s Guide to Facial Spa Treatments

A First Timer’s Guide to Facial Spa Treatments

Spa services offering different types of facial spa treatments ustheir own jargon and terminology that can be intimidating to even pronounce, let alone try to book a session for.

Anyone care to try celeb escargot (snail) facial, frotox (cryotherapy) facial, or uguisu no fun (bird poop) facial? Huh?

What is a facial spa?

A facial spa is a skin treatment involving a variety of therapeutic procedures and products designed to improve the appearance, health, and longevity of the skin. Most spa clinics and wellness centers these days offer a standard or classic facial spa which is a five-stage process; however, it is possible to encounter specialized facial spa packages being offered depending on the expertise of the facialist/esthetician as well as the skin type of the person.

Types of Facial Spa Treatments

Don’t get lost in all that facial lingo, we’ve provided a comprehensive and easy to digest list of the basics.

1. Standard or Classic Facial Spa

A standard or classic facial spa treatment is a five-step procedure that involves cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, application of a mask, and moisturizing. It is a basic skin treatment process that is ideally suited for individuals with normal skin or anyone with minor skin issues.

2. Microdermabrasion Facial Spa

This is the most powerful form of exfoliation that specifically targets clogged pores and uneven skin texture, making it a highly recommended facial procedure for those with dry, oily, or combination skin.

A handheld device with suction and diamond/crystal tips is used to perform two actions: 1) Gently abrade, buff, or scrape the skin’s surface using a minute diamond/crystal-studded tip; 2) Vacuum the skin’s surface to remove dead skin cells, oil, and other debris. The result is a brighter, smoother, and fuller-looking skin.

3. Brightening Facial Spa

This treatment uses the basic five-step procedure of a classic facial spa but with focus on using a combination of powerful antioxidants, enzyme peels, and low PH masks rich in Vitamin C. Intensive hydration and increased skin luminosity are the intended goals of this kind of facial spa.

4. LED Facial Spa

Also called Light Therapy, the LED (light-emitting diode) facial spa treatment uses bright but low-level light-emitting energy to kill acne-causing bacteria and stimulate cellular activity. It is a non-invasive, pain-free technique ideally suited for individuals dealing with pimples and constant breakouts as well as for those with sensitive skin.

5. Lymphatic Drainage Facial Spa

For a brief refresher, the lymphatic system is a vital part of the immune system because it helps eliminate toxins and protect the body against pathogens and diseases.

A lymphatic drainage facial spa involves a series of gentle kneading motions on targeted areas of the face, usually in a circular and upward massaging motions to encourage drainage or flushing out of toxins from the body. It can reduce puffiness and dull complexion for more radiant, healthy-looking skin.

6. Micro-current Facial Spa

The main objective of this type of facial spa treatment is to lift, firm, and contour the face without needles or scalpels. Low levels of electric current are applied on the skin to stimulate the underlying muscles in what is called a gym workout for the face until it looks tighter and more ‘awakened’.

7. Oxygen Facial Spa

If you want to fight the signs of aging or at least stop the clock for the time being, this type of facial spa treatment is one that you should seek out. It won’t magically erase all the fine lines and wrinkles on your face but with the distribution of pure oxygen into your dermal layers, it can visibly restructure the skin for a more toned, less aged look.

At-Home Facial Spa Procedures

Booking for a facial in a lavish spa clinic is a nice and commendable act of self-pampering; however, not everyone has the luxury of time and budget to commit to a regular visit. Thankfully, most of the abovementioned facials can be done in the comfort of your own home.

If you’re blessed with normal skin or minor skin issues, using the Slim-U-Lite Massaging Tool from SpaBox No 2 package can result to better absorption of facial moisturizers, creams, and serums which will increase the products’ effectiveness and keep your skin always looking hydrated and healthy!

If you have dry skin, the CollaGenie Mask will improve skin texture while bringing back its suppleness and radiance. Those that are prone to acne breakouts and have highly sensitive skin can achieve a smoother complexion without irritation through the OxyDerm device. Both are available within the SpaBox No 1 package.

Try SpaBox No 3 package if you want to focus on eliminating skin dullness and dryness or if you want to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
